CCTV drain survey questions should establish the route, purpose and handover before filming begins. The survey company needs to know which drain matters and what decision the footage is meant to support.
Set the survey route before booking
- Which chamber or access point will the camera enter?
- Which branches or connections must be covered?
- Does standing water or debris need clearing first?
- How will distance and direction appear in the report?
- How will hidden or unreachable sections be recorded?
Match the report to the reason for the survey
Footage for a repeat blockage should examine the section where the fault returns. A repair discussion needs the visible defect located. A connection survey may follow a different route altogether.

What a usable report contains
The handover needs the entry point, route travelled, visible findings and any limitation. It should not describe pipe hidden by dirty water as sound. Agree whether video, still images and written notes are included before the appointment.
