Recurring drain blockages need more than another generic callout. If the drain is blocked again now, the immediate job is still to restore flow. A recurring blockage clearance visit should also keep the recovered material and exact point of resistance with the earlier history.
A previous invoice, photograph or short note can save a repeat visit from starting blind. The useful facts are where the last work took place, what came out of the pipe and how long normal use lasted.
Clear today’s blockage without losing the evidence
Ask the drainage company to record the chamber used and whether resistance appeared in the same position as before. Material such as roots, wipes, grease or pipe fragments should be described rather than reduced to “drain cleared”.
A blockage returning at the same chamber
Repeated resistance in one place can justify cleaning or inspection after the immediate obstruction is removed. A different blockage elsewhere on the property does not prove that the earlier work failed.
Keep those two situations separate in the job record. The next decision should refer to the affected pipe section, not simply the number of callouts at the address.
Use the last result to choose the next piece of work
Soft deposit may have been pierced rather than fully removed. Roots can grow back through an opening. Wipes can snag on a rough joint, while a displaced or damaged section may repeatedly hold solids. Each possibility calls for different evidence.
Cleaning, CCTV and repair are separate decisions
Wall cleaning is relevant when deposit remains along the bore. CCTV is useful when a clean pipe leaves a specific question about damage, roots or a catch point. Repair should be discussed only when the visible finding can be located.
A camera cannot give a useful view through dirty standing water. Where cleaning is needed first, the quotation should say so.
Bring the old drain record to the new visit
- the earlier access point and drain section;
- the material removed or method used;
- the first symptom that returned; and
- any footage or repair advice already supplied.

The outcome needed from this visit
The completion note should say whether flow was restored, what was found and which decision remains open. Not every repeat fault needs excavation, but repeated clearance without a located cause may leave the same problem waiting to return.
