Why the Same Drain Keeps Blocking

Use the previous job note to compare access, recovered material and how long the drain worked. That evidence guides the choice between cleaning, CCTV and repair.

When a previously cleared drain fails again, find the last job note before booking the same treatment. A repeat failure leaves a different question from a first blockage: what remained, returned or changed? The note may record grease, roots, wipes, broken material or a point where tools repeatedly stopped.

Start with the last visit, not a guess about today’s cause

Look for the access point used, the material removed and any test carried out afterwards. The date matters too, but it is only useful beside those findings.

Brief improvement and a new blockage are not the same

A pipe that never returned to normal flow may have been partly opened. A drain that worked normally for a period and then failed at another chamber may have a separate obstruction.

Tell the drainage company which outlets are affected now. It can compare the current location with the earlier record before assuming both visits concern the same pipe section.

What can make a cleared drain block again

Grease or scale may remain along the wall after a narrow channel has been opened. Wipes can catch on a rough joint. Roots may grow back through the same crack, while a displaced section can hold solids each time flow slows.

Decide what the camera needs to find

Camera work becomes useful after the pipe is clear enough to see. It might locate a root entry, show whether deposits remain, or confirm a repeated catch point.

Footage should not lead automatically to repair. Any recommendation needs a visible, located finding that explains the returning fault.

Choose between fuller cleaning, inspection and repair

Fuller cleaning makes sense where residue remains. Inspection is justified when a clean pipe leaves an unanswered question. Repair is a separate job for a defect that has actually been found.

The recurring blockage service page explains how an active repeat fault is handled. Keep the dates and findings in the drainage maintenance record if several visits concern the same run.

What to take from the previous paperwork

The drain location, access point, recovered material and length of normal service are enough to start. A broad note saying “unblocked” gives the next company very little to compare.
